White Coat Ceremony

Student of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice as an expert for student affairs at the Polish Accreditation A unique ceremony held at the Silesian Medical Chamber – the White Coat Ceremony – is behind us. In accordance with the tradition of medical schools, this ceremony is dedicated to students who, having completed the pre-clinical part of their education, begin the clinical stage, symbolically donning the white coat.

Key attendees of this ceremony were medical students enrolled in English language program at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, along with invited foreign students enrolled in dental English language program at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze. Total of 70 students enjoyed the presentation of a white coat, accompanied by academic teachers, family members and distinguished guests.

The event was also attended by Rector’s and Dean’s authorities: Professor Wojciech Wojakowski – Vice-Rector for Promotion and International Cooperation, Professor Tomasz Francuz – Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, and Professor Małgorzata Skucha-Nowak – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, who took the stage to greet the students in medical clinical society and expressed best wishes of success in their further medical education.

During the White Coat Ceremony two interesting lectures were given by Professor Grzegorz Helbig – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, and Professor Adrian Smędowski – Head of the Department of Children Ophthalmology.

White Coat students received warm greetings and word of support from their colleagues:
Ms. Julia Plewniok – Head of the Board of Student Government of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, and Ms. Adin Asi – President of SGA English Division.
