The 9th Silesian Science Festival is now behind us, and we’ve broken a record: over 82,000 attendees

From December 5 to 7, 2025, the International Congress Centre in Katowice turned into a huge scientific laboratory during the 9th Silesian Science Festival. More than 82,000 visitors explored the best presentations prepared by the universities of the Academic Consortium.

This year’s theme, “Experiment,” highlighted the key role of scientific discovery. A major attraction was the visit of Dr. Sławosz Uznański – Wiśniewski, the second Polish astronaut.

The Medical University of Silesia presented an extensive Medicine and Health District, featuring nearly 30 interactive stations, VR demonstrations, a virtual anatomy table, workshops for all ages, and free preventive health tests. As part of the ongoing Year of Health Education and Prevention, visitors could undergo spirometry, ECG, or blood glucose tests, consult dietitians, and speak with oncology prevention specialists. Experts also offered consultations on musculoskeletal issues and conducted free bone density tests, said Prof. Oskar Kowalski, Vice-Rector for Research.

Visitors could also engage in hands-on experiments — taking the role of a doctor, testing their eyesight, or making cosmetics like bath salts and scrubs. Children explored the human body in
Dr. Kostian’s Laboratory, observed microorganisms and parasites, and tested the pH of various products.

During the event, the Silesian Science Award was presented to Prof. Maciej Misiołek of the Medical University of Silesia.

This year’s Festival included:
– 2,779 exhibitors
– 1,170 speakers
– 166 artists
– 350 volunteers
– 82,000 participants
