Medical Simulation Centers
The Medical Simulation Centres at the Medical University of Silesia (SUM) in Katowice are among the most modern and largest in Poland, with three facilities: in Katowice (The Education and Medical Simulation Center), Zabrze and Bielsko-Biala.
These centres provide training for students of medicine, dentistry, paramedicine, nursing, and other medical fields at all stages of education — from early years of studies to postgraduate training.
Simulations take place in realistically equipped rooms, such as operating theatres, intensive care units, emergency departments, pediatric and obstetric wards, and even pre-hospital settings, including fully equipped ambulances.
Students have access to advanced technologies — from high-fidelity mannequins that can breathe, speak, and respond to treatment, to computer simulations and virtual patient programs. All scenarios can be recorded and reviewed in debriefing rooms with audio‑visual analysis.
This simulation-based approach allows students to practice clinical skills and patient communication safely and repeatedly before interacting with real patients.
The centres also organize educational and practical events, such as 24-hour workshops “Simulation After Hours” and competitions like “SimChallenge,” which develop teamwork and decision-making skills in simulated clinical situations.
