On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice held ” Orientation Day”, an introductory meeting for newly admitted English-speaking students to the medical faculty at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. The event was attended, among others, by representatives of the dean’s authorities and selected student organizations.

– You have chosen a university that offers you many opportunities. In front of you is one of the most important stages in life, and of course we will try to do everything to help you. However, remember that how you use your opportunity largely depends on yourself. Medicine is a very demanding field of study, which is why we are all counting on your commitment here, said Prof. Dr. med. and n. o zdr. Tomasz Francuz, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, who also added: – Remember that you have chosen this field of study not only for yourselves, but first and foremost for your future patients. Please do everything you can to not only be good students, but above all very good doctors in the future. So don’t be shy to ask when you don’t understand something and ask us for help. Please also remember how important it is in this profession to respect other people. 

– Choosing this path is a testament to your courage and commitment. Medicine, after all, is among the noblest and most essential fields one could pursue. Whether you’re destined to be a pilot, a celebrity, or a politician, everyone, without exception, relies on the expertise of doctors. The newly admitted students were also welcomed by Prof. Aneta Gawlik, MD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice. Other speakers at the meeting included Maria Stec, Chairwoman of the SUM Student Scientific Society, and Kamil Klos, Vice President of Marketing of the IFMSA-Poland Silesia Branch, who spoke about the opportunities offered by these two student organizations. The meeting was also attended by newly admitted students, who flew in from Israel, Egypt and Norway, among others. A total of 53 students from different parts of the world began their medical studies on February 26.
