Scholarships
SUM students may apply for financial assistance in the form of:
1) Rector’s scholarship,
2) grant for the disabled,
3) assistance grant.
The Rector’s scholarship may be awarded to a student who achieved in the previous academic
year a grade average of no less than 4.01 or had academic or artistic achievements or sports
achievements in a competition at least at the national level.
The Rector’s scholarship may be applied for by students who fulfil the criteria above and who completed the year of study.
The Rector’s scholarship is not available to a student repeating a year of study and conditionally
enrolled for the next year of study, in accordance with the Regulations of Studies at the Medical
University of Silesia in Katowice.
Rector’s Scholarship Amount for Students in the 2024/2025 Academic Year:
- PLN 1,250.00 per month for 30% of students eligible for the scholarship, who achieved the highest number of points based on their grade point average and academic, sporting, artistic or other achievements, selected from among the top 10% of students on the ranking list created for each field of study;
- PLN 810.00 per month for the remaining 70% of students selected from the top 10% of students on the ranking list created for each field of study;
- PLN 1,250.00 per month for first-year students who meet the criteria set out in Article 91(2) of the Law on Higher Education and Science.
A grant for the disabled may be awarded to a student on account of disability confirmed by a
decision of a competent authority.
A certificate from a relevant authority on the degree of disability shall be attached by the student
to the application for the grant.
In Poland, a disability certificate must be granted by a qualified medical adjudicator, who evaluates the applicant’s health status and formally classifies the level of disability in accordance with established assessment criteria. Disability certificates issued in the student’s country of origin are not recognised under the applicable legal framework.

An assistance grant is a form of emergency assistance for students who temporarily find
themselves in a difficult life situation.
An assistance grant may be granted in particular in the case of:
1) death of the student’s immediate family members (first degree of kinship)
2) other fortuitous circumstances, such as: serious illness of the student or a member of the
student’s family, natural disasters and others.
The circumstances referred above indicated in the application, the student is obliged to
confirm with appropriate documents.
A student may receive an assistance grant no more than twice in an academic year, however, no
more than once based on the same factual basis
The amount of financial aid for students in the 2024/2025 academic year who have temporarily found themselves in a difficult life situation is 2,500.00 PLN (paid as a one-off payment).
