The 76th Inauguration of the Academic Year at the Medical University of Silesia (ŚUM) is behind us. This special event was attended by the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna. The ceremony was opened and led by the Rector of ŚUM, Prof. Tomasz Szczepański, MD, PhD. In his speech, while thanking the Minister of Health for honoring the event with her presence, he spoke about current and future projects and achievements of ŚUM.
The highlight of the event was the awarding of the title of Emeritus Professor to world-renowned cardiologist and long-time head of the 3rd Department of Cardiology at ŚUM in the Upper Silesian Medical Center, Prof. Michał Tendera, MD, PhD. The laudation was delivered by Prof. Wojciech Wojakowski, Prof. Tendera’s successor at the 3rd Department and Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at ŚUM.
The event concluded with a lecture by Prof. Tendera titled 'University – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow,’ during which he emphasized that it is much easier to be a professor than to be a Human Being. 'It is not enough to be just a good doctor, paramedic, or nurse, but above all a good person, full of empathy for the sick,’ he said.”
